* MOCK BRACKET IS DEAD *

February 28, 2009 10:41 pm

It's obvious that there's just not enough time / interest to keep this thing alive...

First step = 20 voters
Second step = 18 voters
Third step = 12 voters
Fourth step = 4 voters

No problem... The same exact thing happened last year.  Without timely feedback, mock brackets become obsolete in a matter of hours.  If anyone else out there wants to organize a mock bracket, please let me know as I would be happy to help.

* VOTE, VOTE, VOTE * Close To The End

February 28, 2009 1:33 pm

We’re getting down to the wire here but it’s probably not going to get any easier.  We’ve just closed another round of voting to put 4 more teams into our bracket.  Based on the submissions from the 12 voters, the following teams have just been moved into our bracket:

Brigham Young
Michigan
Minnesota
Tennessee

We also have 13 Automatic Bids on the line today.  Click here to see our tournament field so far:

Things are going to get REAL interesting now.  We technically have 33 “At Large” teams in our field right but there are some interesting games today with automatic bids that will possibly increase that number.  All of the teams on our nomination board are obviously hoping for those “at large” teams to keep winning.  Under the real selection process, the five teams that did not receive at large bids during our last round of voting would be held for the next ballot:

Cincinnati (No automatic bid potential)
Maryland (Automatic bid on the line tomorrow against NC State)
Siena (No automatic bid potential)
UNLV (No automatic bid potential)
Utah State

While we were voting, Utah State won an automatic bid while Siena lost their conference championship game to Niagara.  That means, these four teams (Cincy, MD, Siena, & UNLV) are going to be held for our next ballot.  Our next step is to go back to our “Nomination Board” and identify 4 more teams for the next round of cross-country scoring.  Please select six teams from the nomination board below for the next round of voting:

Creighton (No automatic bid potential)
Davidson (Automatic bid on the line today)
Dayton (No automatic bid potential)
Florida (Automatic bid on the line tomorrow against Tennessee)
Georgetown (No automatic bid potential)
Kansas State (No automatic bid potential)
Kentucky (No automatic bid potential)
Miami (Fla.) (No automatic bid potential)
Mississippi State (No automatic bid potential)
Notre Dame (Automatic bid on the line tomorrow against Connecticut)
Oklahoma State (Automatic bid on the line today against Texas)
Penn State (No automatic bid potential)
Providence (No automatic bid potential)
Rhode Island (No automatic bid potential)
San Diego State (No automatic bid potential)
Southern California (No automatic bid potential)
St. Mary's (No automatic bid potential)
Temple (No automatic bid potential)
Texas A&M (No automatic bid potential)
UAB (No automatic bid potential)
Virginia Tech (No automatic bid potential)

As you’ll see, I have noted the teams that are participating in conference championship games.  The 4 teams receiving the most votes will be considered for at large bids during our next round of voting.

* VOTE AGAIN * - Some More At Large Bids

February 27, 2009 6:29 pm
Edited on: February 28, 2009 12:46 pm

D’oh!  For this round, the procedure said “Those teams receiving all but two of the eligible votes shall be added to the at-large field.”  Using the same logic as last time, a team would need 15 (out of 18 votes) to be added to our field.  No teams met that criteria… So, the next step says “The top four vote-getters will be held for the next ballot.”  To keep things moving, we’ll move those top 4 vote getters into our at-large field:

Boston College
Ohio State
South Carolina
Wisconsin

After that, the procedure says that each committee member will submit a listing of eight teams to be considered in the next at-large ballot. Those teams receiving the most votes will be included with the remaining teams to provide a pool of eight teams for the next at-large ballot.  Again, to move the process along, here is our next pool of eight teams:

Brigham Young
Cincinnati
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota
Siena
Tennessee
UNLV
Utah State

OK – So there are actually 9 teams, but there was a four-way tie for the last three spots.  Here’s what we need to: “Committee members rank the eight teams from using a cross-country scoring system (i.e., the best team is valued at one point.) “

So, please rank the nine teams above in ascending order (your one point team is the best team).  The four teams receiving the fewest points shall be added to the at-large field. The other five teams will be held for the next ballot.  I will summarize our current tournament field in a follow up post.

** Note to everyone, please follow the same format as Dan >  Rank-Team Name **

* VOTE PLEASE * - Selecting More At Large Teams

February 26, 2009 9:29 pm

Next step, each committee member will submit a list of the best eight teams from the “under-consideration board,” in no particular order, to be added to the at-large field.  So, please chose EXACTLY eight teams from the list below and paste your results.  Please do not modify the team name at all or the spreadsheet won’t count your votes:

Boston College
Brigham Young
Cincinnati
Creighton
Davidson
Dayton
Florida
Georgetown
Kansas State
Kentucky
Maryland
Miami (Fla.)
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi State
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma State
Penn State
Providence

San Diego State
Siena
South Carolina
Southern California
St. Mary's
